Endgame loot in Diablo 4 has a way of turning a tidy stash into a second job. After a few farming runs, every Unique feels important, every high-level Rare looks promising, and you start keeping gear for builds you may never play. A better system is much simpler: keep items that help your current character, support a build you genuinely plan to try, or have clear value in player trading. If you use Diablo 4 Items to fill a missing slot, the same rule still applies. The item should solve a real problem, not add another piece of clutter.
Start With a Clear Stash Rule
You don't need a full wardrobe for every class and every skill combination. Most players are better off keeping equipment for their main farming setup and, at most, one serious alternative build. That gives you room to experiment without turning every stash tab into a museum.
When an item drops, ask yourself whether you can use it now. If not, would you actually build around it within the next few weeks? If the answer is still no, check whether its stats make it useful to another player. When none of those points apply, move it on. A few seconds of sorting after each run is far easier than spending half an hour clearing space later. Salvaging ordinary gear also keeps your crafting materials topped up, which matters when you start tempering, enchanting, and upgrading good pieces.
Separate Useful Rolls From Mere Rarity
Charms are a common source of stash overload. Keep +4 skill bonuses when the skill belongs to a strong build or fits the character you are actively playing. A +3 bonus can still be worth holding if it completes your setup, but it usually needs another useful stat to justify the space. Maximum Resource can matter a lot for resource-hungry builds, while Gold Find or crafting-related bonuses may appeal to players with a specific farming plan.
Most blue and Rare Charms with no relevant skill, resource, or economy-related stat can go straight to the salvage screen. Keeping a small number of weak Charms for Cube conversion can make sense, but there is no reason to store a whole page of them. Seals with six Charm slots deserve closer attention. Even a non-Mythic version may interest traders, particularly when it also carries Critical Strike Chance or Gold Find. A Seal with fewer slots and no useful combination is rarely worth protecting.
Greater Affixes need the same practical inspection. On weapons, Weapon Damage, Critical Strike Damage Multiplier, and Damage Over Time Multiplier are usually more appealing than narrow recovery effects. On armour and jewellery, Main Stat, Maximum Life, Critical Strike Chance, and Critical Strike Damage tend to have wider use. Life on Kill, Life per Second, Energy on Kill, Healing Received, and many resistance rolls can look impressive at first glance, yet often do little for a fully developed build. A Greater Affix is not a free pass. The stat still has to do something worthwhile.
Use Item Power and Slot Flexibility Wisely
Once you reach the highest Tormented tiers, Item Power becomes a quick filter. Ordinary gear below 900 Item Power usually has less room to grow because its stat ranges are restricted. There are occasional exceptions, especially when a Rare has an unusual combination of excellent Greater Affixes, but most lower-level drops should be processed rather than stored for months.
Don't overlook Rares just because Legendaries have brighter colours. A Rare with two or three strong Greater Affixes can be valuable, since its crafting path may offer more freedom for a particular setup. Weapon Damage paired with Main Stat is an obvious example, though the right combination depends on the class and build. This matters even more if you trade, as another player may be looking for a flexible base rather than a finished Legendary.
Uniques call for a different test. Their fixed affixes leave less room for correction, with only limited reroll options available. Keep one when it has a useful Greater Affix, fits your current build, or has a realistic market. Duplicate Uniques with poor rolls rarely deserve permanent storage. Mythic items need the same honesty. They may be rare, but rarity alone doesn't make one useful. If a Mythic doesn't fit your character, has weak Greater Affixes, or loses to an ordinary Unique in your setup, keeping it forever has no practical benefit.
Store Only the Best Aspects and Materials
Aspects are easier to manage when you stop treating every copy as insurance. Hold onto high rolls, especially those near the top of their range and those that define a key damage multiplier or defensive interaction. An excellent Aspect on a well-rolled item may also be worth preserving for a future upgrade. Low rolls are different. If the effect is easy to find again, one mediocre copy is enough, and sometimes even that one can be processed.
Runes are the main exception to aggressive cleaning. Their crafting and conversion uses can change the value of spare copies, so keeping a healthy supply is reasonable. Still, give everything else a job. A saved item should support a current build, a planned build, a trade, or a specific crafting goal. If you can't explain why it's there, it probably shouldn't be there.
Final Thoughts
A clean stash isn't about throwing away every unusual drop. It's about making decisions while the item is still fresh in your mind. Keep strong Charms, six-slot Seals, useful Greater Affixes, flexible Rares, build-relevant Uniques, high-roll Aspects, and Runes with a clear purpose. Process weak rolls, low Item Power gear, poor duplicates, and items that don't suit any realistic setup. Spend your gold and crafting materials on upgrades that fix a real weakness, and if you choose to buy diablo 4 gear, apply the same standard before it takes up a slot. The less time you spend sorting, the more time you have for the content that actually moves your character forward.
